Near the former site of Les Halles, this circular building crowned by a great glass and iron dome began as a grain exchange in the 18th century and later became a commodities market. In the 21st century it was transformed into a museum of contemporary art housing the Pinault Collection, with a bold concrete cylinder inserted beneath the historic dome by the architect Tadao Ando. A painted panorama circles the interior beneath the glazed roof. The blend of classical shell and minimalist intervention makes it a landmark of adaptive reuse.
