This cobbled pedestrian passage in Saint-Germain-des-Prés winds between old houses and cafés, preserving the intimate scale of pre-Revolutionary Paris. It passes the celebrated café Procope, one of the oldest in the city, and reveals a surviving stretch of the medieval city wall of Philippe Auguste behind a glass panel. Associated with figures of the Revolution such as Marat and Danton, the passage retains a strong historical atmosphere. Its lanterns, worn paving and hidden courtyards make it a favourite for atmospheric strolls.
