Overlooking the Place du Châtelet, this theatre occupies an 1860s building designed as a counterpart to the neighbouring Théâtre du Châtelet across the square. Once associated with the actress Sarah Bernhardt, it later became a leading stage for contemporary dance and international theatre. Its programming emphasises modern choreography, world music and experimental drama. The pair of matching theatres framing the Seine-side square forms one of the most recognisable ensembles of central Paris.
