The oldest surviving house in Glasgow, this modest stone building near the cathedral dates from 1471 and was originally part of a hospital linked to the medieval church. Over the centuries it served as a manse, an alehouse and a sweet shop before being preserved as a museum. Its low-ceilinged rooms are furnished with period furniture and portraits to evoke domestic life in earlier centuries. Behind it lies the St Nicholas Garden, a recreated physic garden with medicinal plants and carved stone faces.
