Central University City Campus of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)

Between 1949 and 1952, more than 60 architects, engineers and artists raised a city-within-a-city on the lava fields of southern Mexico City: the central campus of UNAM, Latin America's great icon of modernism. Murals, sports grounds and open space knit together urbanism, engineering and fine art, all shot through with references to Mexico's pre-Hispanic past. UNESCO recognised the campus as a World Heritage Site in 2007.
