Luis Barragán House and Studio

Behind a plain suburban wall in Mexico City hides one of modern architecture's pilgrimage sites: the house and studio Luis Barragán built for himself in 1948. Across its 1,161 square metres of concrete rooms, roof terrace and small garden, Barragán fused modernist rigour with Mexican vernacular colour and light — an approach that reshaped garden, plaza and landscape design worldwide. UNESCO listed the house as World Heritage in 2004.
