Sugarloaf Mountain is a granite and quartz monolith rising 396 metres at the mouth of Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro. Two successive cable cars ascend first to Morro da Urca and then to the summit, where the view takes in the full urban coastline from Ipanema to Niterói. Sunset from the summit, with the city lights beginning to ignite below, is among the most photographed scenes in South America.
