The Parque do Flamengo is a vast waterfront park in Rio de Janeiro, built in the 1960s on land reclaimed from Guanabara Bay along the city's southern shore. Landscaped by Roberto Burle Marx, it winds for kilometres past lawns, groves and sports fields between the beach and the city's avenues. The park holds a war memorial, a modern art museum and a marina, and offers views toward Sugarloaf Mountain across the water. Cyclists, joggers and families fill its paths, especially on car-free Sundays.
