The Toronto Islands are a chain of low, sand-bar islands in Lake Ontario, separated from the downtown waterfront by a narrow channel and accessible by a short ferry crossing. The islands provide the most celebrated viewpoint of the Toronto skyline, with the downtown towers reflected in the lagoons at dawn. Centre Island contains amusement rides, a petting farm, and picnic grounds, while Ward's Island at the eastern end supports a small year-round residential community.
