Kokeʻe State Park occupies the high plateau above Waimea Canyon on Kauaʻi, sitting at approximately 1,100 meters elevation amid native ʻōhiʻa and koa forest. Over 70 kilometers of trails fan out through the park, some leading to the Kalalau Lookout, which presents a vertiginous view of the Nā Pali valleys 1,200 meters below. The park is a stronghold for several native Hawaiian bird species, including the ʻapapane and Kauaʻi ʻamakihi, making it a notable destination for birdwatchers.
