Often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon cuts nearly 16 kilometers into the western flank of Kauaʻi, reaching depths of around 1,100 meters. The canyon walls layer red basalt, ochre soil, and dense green vegetation in vivid horizontal bands. Lookout points along Waimea Canyon Drive provide sweeping panoramas of the gorge, while trails descend into the canyon past waterfalls and forested ridges.
