A fishing port at the southwestern tip of Taiwan's Pingtung coastal plain, Donggang is the departure point for ferries to Little Liuqiu island and is itself notable as the source of Taiwan's prized black tuna, landed in large quantities during the spring fishing season. The town's major cultural event — the Wang Yeh Boat Festival, held triennially — involves the ceremonial burning of an elaborately constructed wooden boat, and is one of Taiwan's most significant folk religious spectacles.
