A short rocky ridge immediately east of Taipei's Xinyi district, Xiangshan (Elephant Mountain) provides the city's most celebrated urban viewpoint — a granite outcrop at 183 metres from which Taipei 101 and the surrounding metropolitan basin are framed between two hillside silhouettes. The 30-minute ascent from the Xiangshan MRT station involves sections of steep stone steps cut into the hillside, and the summit viewpoint is at its most dramatic at dusk and after dark.
