Maafushi

Maafushi is an inhabited local island in Kaafu Atoll, approximately 26 kilometres south of Male, that has developed as the primary budget travel destination in the Maldives since guesthouses on local islands were legalised in 2009. The island has a designated bikini beach at its western end separated from the local community beach, and dive operators offer access to nearby reef channels and a shipwreck. Its accessibility by public ferry from Male and comparatively low costs distinguish it from atoll resort islands.
