The largest mosque in Kuwait, completed in 1986 after over a decade of construction, the Grand Mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers in its main prayer hall and courtyard. The central dome reaches 43 metres in height and is flanked by a single minaret rising to 74 metres. The building's marble floors and detailed interior calligraphy represent a significant commission of Islamic decorative arts from the late twentieth century. Guided tours for non-Muslim visitors are available on request.
