A large public park in Vienna's second district, the Prater encompasses the historic Wurstelprater amusement park and the broad Hauptallee, a chestnut-lined avenue nearly five kilometres long used by cyclists, joggers, and horse-drawn carriages. The Wiener Riesenrad, a giant Ferris wheel constructed in 1897, remains the park's most prominent landmark and provides aerial views across Vienna. The wooded outer Prater, known as the Green Prater, offers extensive meadows and riverside paths along the Danube.
