A 320-hectare area of ancient heathland on the northern heights above central London, Hampstead Heath has remained largely undeveloped since it was protected as open land in 1871. Parliament Hill at its southern end provides one of the most famous elevated views of the London skyline, with the Shard, St Paul's, and the City visible in alignment. The Heath also contains three swimming ponds, ancient woodland, and the landscaped grounds of Kenwood House.
