A limestone plateau rising above the lower city of Tallinn, historically the seat of ecclesiastical and administrative power in medieval Estonia and today the location of the Estonian Parliament, several churches, and two renowned viewing platforms. The Kohtuotsa and Patkuli viewpoints look down over the red-tile rooftops and church spires of the old town, with the Baltic coast visible in the distance. The hilltop contrast with the medieval lower town is the defining visual image of Tallinn.
