Norway's second-largest city, situated on the southwestern coast between seven hills and the Byfjord, and serving historically as the country's main trading centre. The medieval Wharf district of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lines the eastern shore of Vågen harbour with a row of colourful wooden Hanseatic merchant buildings. The surrounding mountains, including Fløyen and Ulriken, are accessible by funicular and cable car and provide elevated views over the city and its archipelago.
