Printing was the information revolution of the 16th century, and Antwerp one of its three great hubs alongside Paris and Venice. The workshop Christophe Plantin founded became Europe's most prolific publishing house of its age, run by his Moretus heirs in the same building until 1867 — which is why so much survives: presses among the world's oldest, type, archives, a magnificent library and paintings by family friend Rubens. UNESCO inscribed the Plantin-Moretus complex in 2005.
