This late-Gothic church near the old harbour of Antwerp was built for the Dominican order and completed in stages over the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Inside, a remarkable series of paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordaens depicts the mysteries of the rosary, hung among elaborately carved wooden confessionals. An unusual outdoor sculpture garden known as the Calvary wraps around one side with grottoes and statues. Damaged by fire in the past and carefully restored, it holds one of the city's richest concentrations of Baroque art.
