This restored patrician residence in central Antwerp was the home of Nicolaas Rockox, a mayor of the city and a patron and friend of the painter Peter Paul Rubens. Arranged as a Golden Age collector's house, its rooms display paintings by Flemish masters, antique furniture and objects reflecting seventeenth-century taste. A tranquil inner courtyard garden offers respite from the busy streets. The museum recreates the refined world of the merchant elite who made Antwerp one of Europe's wealthiest cities.
