The Boerentoren, or Farmers' Tower, is an Art Deco skyscraper in the centre of Antwerp, completed in 1932 and rising about 88 metres. Often described as one of the first high-rise buildings in Europe, it was a bold statement of modernity in a city of medieval spires and guild houses. Its stepped brick and stone form has become a listed landmark, and it long housed a bank before entering a period of redevelopment as a cultural venue. The tower stands close to the cathedral and the historic market squares.
