Gedung Kesenian Jakarta

The Gedung Kesenian Jakarta is a historic performing arts theatre in the old centre of the Indonesian capital, built by the Dutch colonial administration in 1821 in a neoclassical style. Long a stage for theatre, dance, chamber concerts and classical music, it has witnessed important moments in the country's cultural and political history, including early nationalist gatherings. Restored to preserve its period elegance, its columned white facade remains a graceful landmark.
