The Central Radio and TV Tower in western Beijing is one of the tallest structures in the Chinese capital, completed in 1992 and rising about 405 metres. Set beside a landscaped park, its concrete shaft flares into a bulb near the top that houses an observation deck and a revolving restaurant. On clear days the platform gives views across the vast city, from the modern high-rises to the historic axis. The tower is illuminated at night and remains a familiar landmark of the capital's western districts.
