Achimota Forest is a large protected woodland on the northern edge of Accra, long valued as a green lung for the fast-growing capital. Its stands of trees and undergrowth shelter birds and small wildlife within reach of the city, and stretches have been developed with trails and an ecopark for visitors. The forest has been the focus of repeated conservation campaigns amid pressure from urban expansion. For residents it offers walking, cycling and a rare experience of shaded natural surroundings close to the busy heart of Accra.
