The new parliament complex of Thailand, known as Sappaya-Sapasathan, rises beside the Chao Phraya River in the Dusit district of Bangkok. Completed in the early 2020s, it is crowned by a gilded stepped pinnacle drawn from traditional Thai religious architecture, symbolising the mountain of the gods at the centre of the cosmos. Vast and ornate, it houses both legislative chambers along with libraries and ceremonial halls. Its riverside setting and golden spire make it one of the largest recent government buildings.
