This grand domed hall in the Dusit district was completed in the reign of King Vajiravudh as a European-style throne hall, built largely of Italian marble and crowned by a central cupola. Its interior is famous for vast frescoes depicting key episodes in the history of the ruling dynasty, painted by Italian artists across the vaulted ceilings. Once used for state occasions and the early national assembly, it stands at the head of a ceremonial avenue as an imposing example of Beaux-Arts architecture.
