The seat of Mexico's Chamber of Deputies occupies a modernist complex in the San Lázaro district east of the historic centre. Completed in 1981, its main chamber sits beneath a distinctive folded roof, and the surrounding blocks hold offices, committee rooms and a legislative library. A tall flagpole and broad forecourt front the entrance, which becomes a focal point during the presidential state-of-the-nation address and periodic protests. Its plain lines reflect late-twentieth-century Mexican public architecture.
