Housed in an early twentieth-century commercial building in the historic centre, this museum grew from the vast collection of popular art, prints, caricatures and photographs assembled by the writer Carlos Monsiváis. Its exhibitions draw on tens of thousands of objects that chronicle the everyday culture, humour and politics of twentieth-century Mexico. A rooftop terrace offers views over the surrounding streets toward the cathedral. Lively and accessible, it offers a popular counterpoint to the city's grander art institutions.
