The oldest office building for the United States Senate stands just north of the Capitol on Constitution Avenue. Opened in 1909 in a restrained Beaux-Arts style, it presents a long colonnade of Doric columns and encloses a courtyard behind its marble facade. Inside, a grand rotunda ringed by columns and a sweeping caucus room have hosted landmark hearings across the past century. Named for a prominent mid-century senator, it remains a working home for senators' offices and links to the Capitol by subway.
