The Catshuis is a seventeenth-century country house in The Hague that serves as the official residence of the Dutch Prime Minister. Built for the poet and statesman Jacob Cats, from whom it takes its name, the classical villa sits within a wooded estate near the city's edge. It is used mainly for meetings, crisis consultations, and the reception of foreign dignitaries rather than as a daily home. The house and grounds are closed to the public, but its role has made the name synonymous with government negotiations.
