This large monumental fountain sits near the Kastellet and the waterfront in Copenhagen, illustrating a Norse legend about the origin of the island of Zealand. Completed in 1908, it depicts the goddess Gefion driving a team of four powerful oxen, her sons transformed into beasts, as she ploughs the land from Sweden. Water cascades dramatically over the rocks and around the straining animals. Donated by a brewery foundation, it has become a popular gathering spot in the city.
