This large bronze and stone monument dominates the Place de la République, one of the largest squares in Paris. Inaugurated in 1883, it centres on a colossal statue of Marianne, the personification of the French Republic, holding an olive branch atop a tall pedestal. Around the base, bronze reliefs and figures represent Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, while a lion guards a ballot box symbolising suffrage. The square has long served as a rallying point for marches and memorials.
