In the Marais, this grand early 18th-century mansion is celebrated for its magnificent Rococo interiors and its horseshoe-shaped colonnaded courtyard. It houses part of the French national archives and hosts a museum of history displaying original documents of the nation's past. The state apartments, decorated for the Prince and Princess de Soubise, feature painted ceilings, gilded panelling and works by leading artists of the era. With the adjacent Hôtel de Rohan, it forms a sumptuous aristocratic ensemble.
