The TransNamib Railway Museum occupies the upper floor of the historic Windhoek railway station, a handsome colonial-era building in the capital. Its exhibits trace the development of Namibia's railways from the German period through the twentieth century, with photographs, models, tools and signalling equipment. Displays recount the construction of desert lines and the role of rail in mining and settlement. A preserved locomotive stands outside the station.
