A museum on the Alcântara waterfront exploring Portugal's historic presence in Asia and the wider ties between Portugal and the East. Housed in a converted 1940s codfish warehouse, it displays Chinese and Japanese screens, Indo-Portuguese furniture, textiles and religious objects. A major section presents a collection of Asian gods and performance masks. The exhibits reflect centuries of maritime trade, missionary activity and cultural exchange across the Indian Ocean.
