This two-level garden terrace on a hill above the Bairro Alto offers one of the most sweeping viewpoints in Lisbon, looking across the valley of the Avenida da Liberdade toward the castle and cathedral on the opposite ridge. Laid out in the nineteenth century, it is dotted with busts of mythological figures, a small fountain and a tiled panel that names the landmarks visible on the skyline. Reached by the neighbouring yellow funicular, its shaded benches and kiosk café make it a popular gathering place, especially at dusk.
