The Grand Pacific Hotel is a landmark of Suva's waterfront, opened in 1914 to serve passengers of the Union Steam Ship Company arriving in the colonial capital. Its white colonnaded façade and wide verandahs epitomise early twentieth-century Pacific hotel architecture. After decades of decline it was restored and reopened, recovering its status as one of the city's most elegant buildings. Facing Suva Harbour across a broad lawn, the hotel has hosted royalty and remains a symbol of Suva's history as a South Pacific port.
