Ela Beach is a curving urban shoreline in central Port Moresby, long serving as the capital's main gathering place by the sea. A redeveloped promenade lines the sand, drawing walkers, families and craft sellers, and the beach hosts the annual Hiri Moale Festival that revives the memory of the Motu people's ancient hiri trading voyages. Colourful outrigger canoes feature in the celebrations. With views across Walter Bay, it is among the more accessible coastal spots in a city otherwise short on public waterfront.
