Set within the Auckland Domain, these two heritage glasshouses and a fernery surround a sunken formal courtyard with a lily pond and sculpture. One house maintains a warm tropical climate for palms and orchids, while the other displays seasonal cool-climate plantings that are changed through the year. Built in the 1920s in an elegant classical style, the structures are a much-loved example of Edwardian garden design. The adjoining fernery, set in a former quarry, shelters a collection of native and exotic ferns beneath a canopy.
