This seaside suburb on the shore of Gulf St Vincent is one of the oldest European settlements in South Australia, marking the spot where the colony was proclaimed in 1836 beneath a still-standing old gum tree. A vintage tram links it directly to central Adelaide, running down to the beachfront square and jetty.
