This grand civic building on King William Street in central Adelaide was completed in 1866 in a Renaissance Revival style, its tall clock and bell tower a prominent feature of the streetscape. Designed by a locally based architect, it houses a large auditorium long used for concerts, meetings and civic ceremonies, and holds a notable pipe organ. The council chambers and reception rooms retain their nineteenth-century decoration. It remains the seat of the city council and a venue for concerts and events.
