The seat of the South Australian parliament stands on North Terrace near the railway station, its colonnaded marble facade a landmark of the ceremonial boulevard. Construction began in 1883 but stretched over decades, and the building was finally completed in 1939, leaving a visible join between its two stages. Fronted by rows of Corinthian columns in local marble, it houses the two chambers of the state parliament, which can be viewed on public tours when not in session.
