This traditional Japanese garden lies within the South Parklands that ring central Adelaide and was created to mark the sister-city ties between Adelaide and Himeji in Japan. Opened in 1985, it combines two classic garden styles, a dry landscape of raked gravel and carefully placed stones alongside a lake-and-mountain scene with water, a bridge and clipped plantings. Designed following advice from Japanese experts, the enclosure offers a quiet, contemplative retreat framed by walls and traditional gates.
