This colonial mansion in the inner-eastern suburb of South Yarra blends Australian Regency and Italianate styles and overlooks the Yarra River from landscaped grounds. Built in stages from the 1840s, it was long home to the Armytage family, whose furnishings and possessions survive throughout the house. The gardens, laid out in the nineteenth century, feature terraces, a fernery and mature trees. Now a house museum, Como offers guided tours through its elegant, richly furnished rooms.
