The official residence of the Governor of New South Wales stands in its own grounds within the Royal Botanic Garden, overlooking Sydney Harbour. Completed in 1845 in the Gothic Revival style, its turreted sandstone facade and formal gardens reflect the ceremonial role it still plays in the state. The interiors hold historic furnishings, portraits and vice-regal rooms used for official functions and investitures. The house and gardens open to the public on certain days for guided tours.
