This small sandstone building on the edge of Circular Quay in The Rocks is one of the oldest surviving houses in Sydney, dating from around 1816. It was built to accommodate government boat crews and takes its name from John Cadman, a former convict who became superintendent of government craft and lived there. Once standing at the water's edge before land reclamation moved the shoreline, the cottage now serves as a heritage site interpreting the maritime origins of the colony.
