The meeting place of the Australian federal parliament, opened in 1988 on Capital Hill to replace the earlier Provisional Parliament House nearby. Designed by Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp, the building is tucked into the hillside and topped by a colossal stainless-steel flagpole that has become a symbol of the capital. Visitors can tour the marble foyer, the Great Hall with its vast tapestry, and both the green House of Representatives and red Senate chambers.
