This large seaside park stretches along the Montevideo coast and was laid out in the early twentieth century as a place of recreation and culture. It contains a lake, an amusement park, an open-air theatre, a library and museums, all set among gardens and tree-lined paths. Named after the writer José Enrique Rodó, the park adjoins one of the city's beaches and its promenade. It remains a favourite destination for families, cyclists and weekend crowds throughout the warmer months.
